Drug Rehabilitation Patients Can Fully Recover?

Drug rehabilitation is one way to cure drug addiction. Internal medicine specialist Ari Fahrial Syam said that rehabilitation can completely cure addicts. According to Ari, drug addiction can be eliminated with rehabilitation.

“Meanwhile, rehabilitation is the process of eliminating addiction so that you don’t remember ever using drugs. Many patients have done it and can recover completely,” he said when contacted by Republika.co.id, Sunday (12/12).

Regarding rehabilitation depending on how long it takes, he emphasized that it depends on the psychological factors of the addict. So it cannot be determined how long it will take because each case is different. What is clear, he continued, is that multi-disciplinary parties will deal with drug addicts from their psychological side to their drugs.

Regarding the possibility of people who have completely recovered from using drugs again, Ari admits that this could happen. However, the urge to return to using drugs is not from within his body.

“When rehabilitation is finished, yes, it is finished. It all depends on the peer group, if you meet your friends again then there is a problem and think the solution is to be happy, so you can go back to consuming it again,” he said.

In fact, he warned, the organs of ex-drug addicts may experience damage to complications in the liver. It all depends on how long you were exposed to and how long you took the drug.

“What is clear is that if you have been using drugs for a long time, you will eventually experience organ damage,” he said.

He gave an example if drug addicts get hepatitis B, they are treated with hepatitis B. Then if they use injecting drugs they can get hepatitis B or hepatitis C. So, if an organ is damaged, such as the liver, it must be treated until the virus disappears. In other words, complications side effects are treated.

However, the man who serves as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, reminded that everything depends on the degree. If the damage is still mild, it can be treated. On the other hand, if it’s already heavy then you can’t.

“So, don’t ever try drugs because they can damage the body’s organs including the brain, eyes, or liver. In fact, if you overdose, you can die,” he said.

Regarding how long it takes for addicts to suffer damage to all organs of the body due to drugs, he emphasized that it varies. It all depends on the sensitivity of each body. In addition, depending on the dose and duration of use.

“This means that if you are exposed to drugs, you can experience various risks. The longer you use drugs the risk of organ complications, “he said.
